This course provides an introduction to major political, economic, and social issues in China since 1949. The instructor will mainly analyze imperial heritage, foreign policy, peasant economy, political campaigns, and the making of ?socialism? in contemporary China. The class will include lectures, class discussions, videos, and other visual aids. Short articles and documents will be distributed in class.
